VNC® Enterprise Edition E4.4 - Known Bugs

The following are known bugs, features and omissions in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.4. You may also wish to check the known bugs for version 4.3.x

10 June 2008 25 VNC Server for Mac OS X The VNC Server for Mac OS X is sometimes not notified of updates to small areas of the screen, especially after scrolling quickly. Request a full screen refresh, or drag the affected window around the screen. Fixed in 4.5.
10 June 2008 26 VNC Server for Mac OS X Mouse pointers like the pointing hand in web browsers, or the 'copy files' pointer may appear corrupted when viewed over VNC. This is due to the way in which pointer information is made available by Mac OS X to the VNC Server, no workaround is available. Fixed in 4.5.
9 May 2008 911 VNC Server If IP-address based filtering is enabled (via the Hosts parameter), valid IP addresses may be wrongly rejected, returning a "Connection closed unexpectedly" error message to the VNC Viewer. None. Fixed in E4.4.1
1 Feb 2008 138 VNC Viewer Non-ANSI characters, such as € or accented characters, entered into a chat session by the VNC Viewer user are ignored. None. Fixed in 4.5.
7 Mar 2008 351 VNC Address Book for Windows Scrolling VNC Address Book window while renaming an entry causes it to crash. Hit Enter or Escape to finish or cancel the rename before scrolling the window. Fixed in E4.4.2
25 Mar 2008 453 VNC Viewer for Windows On Windows 98 and ME, the VNC Viewer toolbar hides very slowly. None. Under consideration.
25 Mar 2008 457 VNC Viewer for Windows On Windows 2000 and earlier, the VNC Viewer toolbar is too wide and has no tooltips. None. Fixed in 4.6.
25 Mar 2008 648 VNC Address Book for Windows If a VNC Address Book entry contains invalid credentials, then you will not be prompted to enter correct credentials when using it. Correct or remove the username and password stored in the entry. Fixed in 4.5.
16 Apr 2008 656 Windows NT 4 Transferring a directory twice to the same location does not copy the contents of that directory correctly. Rename the directory transferred first before transferring it a second time. Fixed in 4.6.
26 Apr 2008 771 Ubuntu 7.10 and later With the compositing manager (Compiz) enabled, VNC applications have a number of problems including tooltip and menu placement and flickering when in full-screen mode. Disable compositing for full screen windows: SYSTEM -> PREFERENCES -> Advanced desktop Effect Settings -> General options -> Unredirect fullscreen Windows (OFF) Fixed in later versions of Compiz.
28 Apr 2008 782 VNC Viewer and User-Mode Server for Windows If the IZArc compression shell extension is installed, VNC Viewer and VNC Server (User-Mode) may crash when transferring files via the Fetch Files user interface. Paste the files from the clipboard instead of using Fetch Files. Fixed in 4.6.
30 Apr 2008 809 x0vncserver When using x0vncserver on some X Servers, notably older ones, text cut to the server's clipboard is not sent to any connected viewers. None. Fixed in E4.4.2
1 May 2008 842 VNC Address Book for UNIX Deleting a folder with entries gives the error "Unable to delete directory... Directory not empty (39)". Restart vncaddrbook; the folder has actually been deleted correctly. Fixed in E4.4.2
10 June 2008 1116 VNC Server on Windows Vista/2008 Enabling screen blanking while Aero is active blanks both the viewer and server screens. Enable either "Optimise screen capture" or "Disable user interface effects" if screen blanking is enabled. Fixed in 4.5.
10 June 2008 1209 VNC for Mac OS X If you attempt to transfer a file to somewhere that you do not have permission to write to, you will receive an error message asking if you want to Abort or Retry. Pressing 'Abort' has no effect. Pressing 'Retry' instead of 'Abort' will dismiss the error message. Fixed in 4.5.
10 June 2008 1217 VNC for Windows If you attempt to connect to a Windows server that uses Single Sign-On authentication and encryption 'Always On', using a viewer with encryption set to 'Prefer Off', then you may be denied access to the server even after entering valid credentials. Connect to the server with viewer encryption set to 'Let Server Choose' or 'Prefer On'. Fixed in 4.5.
3 June 2008 1153 VNC Address Book for Windows Attempting to connect to using a entry with an encrypted password fails with "Bad obfuscated password length". Remove the password from the entry. Fixed in E4.4.2
13 June 2008 1307 VNC Server for Mac OS X If you use cmd-C in Finder on the server to copy a file which has an accented character in the filename, the server will close. You can transfer the file using the 'Send Files to Viewers...' entry on the VNC Server menu. Fixed in 4.5.
